Potato Vines, also known as Sweet Potato Vines, are beautiful summer annuals in northern New Mexico, and look great in flower beds, hanging baskets and containers (also called "color bowls"). They prefer bright, sunny locations (partial to full sun) and enjoy hot weather.
Payne's carries three varieties of potato vines:
Ipomoea batatas 'Blackie' (dark purple) Ipomoea batatas 'Margarita' (vibrant chartreuse) Solanum jasminoides 'Variegata' (variegated)
These fast-growing relatives of Morning Glories need fertile, well drained soil and need to be fed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer. These are drought-resistant plants, so while they need to be watered regularly, don't over water. For a bushier look, trim the vines back a bit if they get too long.
Easily trained to climb a trellis or trail as a vine, these long-lasting beauties can be brought indoors and placed by a sunny window for the winter.
Potato vines are super popular with Payne's customers, so hurry in for best selection!
