The Montmorency cherry is a self-fertile sour cherry. The tree produces bright red fruit that is medium to large with yellow flesh. Montmorency cherry trees are vigorous in growth and consistently heavy producers. Because of its outstanding traits, it is the leading sour cherry for commercial canneries. These cherries are excellent for pies and preserves. The tree is named after Montmorency Valley in France where it was first cultivated.
