¡Viva fiesta! 'Cinco de Mayo™' is a medium-tall Floribunda Rose, introduced to commerce in 2009, when it won an AARS award. It originated as a seedling of 'Topsy Turvy' and 'Julia Child' (both of which Payne's is also carrying this year). Floribundas are "flower factories" renowned for their masses of bloom, which repeat during the summer months.
'Cinco de Mayo™' makes a compact, rounded, bushy, 3.5-foot shrub deep, super-glossy, disease resistant, green foliage. Throughout the summer 'Cinco de Mayo™' bears clusters of long, pointed buds that open into 2.5 to 3.5-inch wide, ruffled, doubled flowers on 10 to 15-inch cutting stems. Each blossom has 20 to 25 petals of a mysterious smokey lavender and rusty red-orange breathing an alluring sweet apple fragrance. The smokiness of the flowers is most pronounced in cool weather.
Weeks Roses says of this beauty, "[Its colors] layer and mingle like the colors of sunset on the Mexican Riviera just as brightness succumbs to seductive darkness." Garden writer Lydia Plunk calls it "the floral equivalent of Selma Hayak." A lovely landscape rose, 'Cinco de Mayo™' has clean, dark green, glossy foliage, too. Reserve yours today.
