Expert Advice
hansa.2My late father was born in 1905, the very year this groundbreaking double Rugosa rose was introduced to gardens. Not a Hybrid Tea, but a recurrent-blooming, double form of a wild rose, 'Hansa' is exceptionally hardy and vigorous, making a spreading, 4 to 5-foot tall (and wide!) bush with wrinkled ("rugose"), dark green foliage. Fat round buds held in clusters open to 3 to 3.5-inch wide, dark reddish-violet blossoms redolent with a rich clove perfume. Return to the days of horse-and-buggy and romantic ladies in scented crinolines with 'Hansa'!
