The Civil War was only three years in the past when 'Zephirine Drouhin' was introduced to gardens in 1868, and it is testimony to this marvelous Climber's adaptability to alkaline soils, pollution, and semishade that she has stayed in circulation for nearly 150 years!
One of the few remaining repeat-blooming 'Bourbon' roses, each large, nearly thornless, 8 to 12-foot tall bush is clothed with dense, semiglossy green foliage, and puts out clusters of long, pointed, dark pink buds that open into cascades of 3.5 to 4-inch wide, deep rose, fully double blossoms. Each bloom cluster is held on a 15 to 20-inch cutting stem, and breathes a delicious sweet raspberry perfume.
'Zephirine Drouhin' makes a glorious "pillar" rose for a lightly shaded wall or arbor, and the fountains of bloom are exquisite both in the vase and dried in a cool dark place for fragrant potpourri.
