Acer x freemanii ‘Autumn Blaze’ (Autumn Blaze Maple): 60'H x 40'+W. Fast-growing, with dense oval upright crown; red twigs, branches, and buds; showy flowers; dull red fruit; and brilliant orange-red fall color. Not very pollution tolerant.

Acer negundo 'Sensation' (Sensation Box Elder): 40'H x 30'W. Nonsuckering variety with toothed 3-9 lobed leaves, slowish growth and lovely deep pink fall foliage.

Acer tataricum (Tatarian Maple): 20-25' H&W. Tooth-edged leaves (young leaves lobed) turn yellow to reddish brown in fall; showy reddish summer seeds.

Acer tataricum ginnala 'Flame' (Flame Amur Maple): 15-20' H&W. Toothed, three-lobed leaves; fragrant yellowish early spring flowers; bright red winged seeds; fiery autumn red foliage. Native to Manchuria, China, Japan.

Catalpa speciosa (Native Catalpa): 40-60'H x 20-40'W. Round-headed tree, native to Southwestern U.S., with large 6-12" long heart-shaped odorless leaves; clusters of 2"-wide white trumpets marked and striped yellow and soft brown in late spring and early summer, followed by "Indian beans", i.e., long bean-shaped seed capsules. Highly adaptable to Southwest conditions.

Celtis occidentalis (Common Hackberry): 50'H x 40'W. Rounded crown, spreading branches; bright green finely toothed oval leaves which do not appear until mid-spring. Brown berrylike fruits attract wildlife. Resists oak root fungus. A tough, adaptable shade tree.

Crataegus phaenopyrum (Washington Hawthorn, syn. Crataegus cordata): 25'H x 20'W. Graceful little tree with glossy lobed leaves that turn shades of red and orange in fall. Showy, shiny red fruit in fall and winter. Native to Southeast U.S.A. Resists fireblight.

Gleditsia triacanthos inermis ‘Shademaster’ (Shademaster Thornless Honeylocust): 40-50’ H, 30-40’ W, drought-tolerant, fast-growing, graceful tree with thornless, spreading branches forming a rounded crown. Soft- yellow fall color. Seedless.

Koelreuteria paniculata (Goldenrain Tree): 20-35’ H x 25-40’ W. Open, branching ornamental with compound leaves that open purplish and mature to bright green. Showy 8-14" long golden flower clusters in summer, followed by decorative, winter-persistent, Chinese-lantern-like reddish fruit capsules that mature to buff-brown. Tolerant of temperature extremes and drought.

Malus ‘Radiant’ (Radiant Hybrid Crabapple): 20-25’H, 15-20’W, drought-tolerant, densely-rounded tree. Deep red buds open to deep pink flowers in spring producing bright red fruits in summer. Bronze-green foliage through fall.

Pinus flexilis ‘Vanderwolf’ (Vanderwolf Limber Pine): 30-50’ H, 15-30’ W, adaptable water requirements, sun to filtered shade. Striking, bluish-green needles on ascending branches form an upright, pyramidal tree. Needles are soft and flexible.
Pinus nigra (Austrian Pine): 40-60’H, 30-40’ W, drought-tolerant, broad growing, pyramidal to oval tree. Wide-spreading branches have long, shiny green needles. It is pest and disease resistant to our local ‘problems’, so it is a great replacement for Pinus ponderosa ‘Ponderosa Pine’.
Pinus sylvestris (Scots Pine): 30-50’ H, 20-30’ W, adaptable water requirements, sun to filtered shade. Distinctive, heavily plated, yellowish-orange bark and layered branches create an interesting, round to conical shaped tree. Short needles are blue-green. This tree is pest and disease resistant to our local ‘problems’, so it is an excellent alternative to Pinus edulis ‘Pinon Pine’.
Populus x acuminata (Lanceleaf Cottonwood): 40-60’ H x 35-45’ W. Seedless male hybrid with narrow triangular dark green leaves, paler green underneath, which turn yellow in fall. Vigorous root systems. Prefers full sun and regular water.

Prunus cerasifera ‘Krauter Vesuvius’ (Krauter Vesuvius Plum): 15-20’ H, 15-20’ W, drought-tolerant, rounded tree with dark, coppery leaves. Flowers in spring are light pinks to white and sometimes set a good crop of delicious, red fruit.

Sophora japonica ‘Regent’ (Regent Japanese Pagoda Tree): 50-70’ H&W. Wonderful shade tree with dark grey-green bark that ages to attractive furrows; dark green divided leaves. Showy, drooping clusters of whitish sweetpea-like blossoms in spring, followed by decorative 4-7" seedpods. Needs good drainage. Hardy to Zone 4.

Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’ (Greenspire Little-leaf Linden): 30-40’ H, 25-35’ W, drought-tolerant, uniform conical shaped tree with small round to heart-shaped green leaves turning to yellow in fall. Tiny, pale yellow flowers in summer are fragrant.
