Purple Fountain Grass

Purple Fountain Grass

Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’

It has showy, fluffy, burgundy-purple spikes that grow up to a foot long and  top flower stalks  that arch upward and outward above burgundy-red foliage. Purple fountain grass is a beautiful plant that can be the main attraction (a “thriller”) in a hanging basket or mixed-flower container. It’s often used as a border to accent a beautiful flower bed or to hide an unattractive view.

It grows best in fertile, well-drained soil and needs weekly fertilizing to keep it looking its best. When planted in the ground, it is a low maintenance plant that needs weekly watering. If it’s in a pot, water it every few days.

Look for the varieties ‘Fireworks’ and ‘Cherry Sparkler.’
