Verbena

Verbena

Verbena hybrida

Verbena looks delicate but these are hardy plants that can tolerate the heat, can be drought tolerant once established, and they can handle cool night temperatures. Verbena stay in bloom longer than many annuals, from spring to frost, especially if they are planted in fertile, well-drained soil, are fertilized regularly and are deadheaded occasionally.

There are many colors to choose from including  white, and various shades of blue, pink, red, so they are popular for container planting and hanging baskets — especially the trailing varieties.

They attract birds and butterflies and deer don’t like them.
