Earth Day’s 2026 theme is OUR POWER, OUR PLANET, calling for everyone to unite around renewable energy so we can triple clean electricity by 2030.

EARTHDAY.ORG’s founders created and organized the very first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. Since then, Earth Day Network has been mobilizing over 1 billion people annually on Earth Day, and every other day, to protect the planet.

This Earth Day, people of all backgrounds and generations are called to stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of the only home we share. On this Earth Day April 22, and throughout 2026 take action and show your love for Planet Earth. When we stand together, our planet has a future.

CLIMATE EDUCATION GOES GLOBAL

Tracking mandatory climate education worldwide:

We recognize the vital role of education in preparing communities to address the climate crisis. The European Union has taken a historic step by embedding climate education into school curricula from kindergarten through grade 12 as part of its 2025 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.

Events tied to Earth Day 2026 will likely include community cleanups, educational workshops, tree plantings, and sustainability fairs. Schools and local organizations often use the day as an opportunity to engage people of all ages in hands-on activities that build awareness and encourage long-term habits. Whether through volunteering, supporting conservation efforts, or making more sustainable choices at home, Earth Day continues to be a powerful moment for reflection and action worldwide.
